# Vantage

> Vantage is an MCP server that checks whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews actually cite a given website or brand, for which questions, and how that changes over time - real citation data pulled live, not a self-reported guess.

## What this is

Vantage is a remote MCP (Model Context Protocol) server at https://vantagemcp.dev/mcp. Connect it to any MCP-compatible AI assistant - Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and others - to run AI-visibility checks directly from a conversation, instead of opening a separate dashboard.

## Setup

If your client supports MCP sign-in (OAuth), add https://vantagemcp.dev/mcp with no key. It opens a Vantage page where you create a free account with your email, or sign in with a key you already have.

## Tools

- get_supported_options - which engines, platforms and markets each tool accepts, and the per-call limits. Costs 0 units.
- get_usage - how much of this billing period's quota is left, before spending any of it. Costs 0 units.
- find_cited_questions - starts from your domain: the questions where AI answers already cite it, most asked first
- analyze_citation_coverage - which of several prompts/keywords actually cite a specific domain, and which don't (up to 10 keywords per call); remembers each result and reports what changed since your last check
- get_check_history - your earlier coverage results for a domain, newest first. Costs 0 units.
- find_citation_leaders - who dominates AI-answer citations for a keyword, and whether a given domain is among them
- analyze_citation_gap - diffs your own page against the winning cited answer for a keyword and returns a fix brief: ordered rewrite instructions, including the answer's points your page does not cover, ending with the off-site step (which community sites or other websites the answer relies on)
- analyze_citation_trend - month-by-month citation counts for a domain, optionally next to competitors' trends, so visibility trend over time is measurable
- analyze_citation_structure - how the winning AI answer for a topic is actually shaped: list-led or not, sources cited, opening length
- analyze_citation_structure_batch - the same shape-check across up to 10 related topics in a single call

The live-answer tools (analyze_citation_coverage, analyze_citation_structure and its batch form, analyze_citation_gap) take engine: chat_gpt (default), gemini or perplexity. analyze_citation_coverage and analyze_citation_structure also take samples (1 to 5): answers change from run to run, so samples=3 reports "cited in 2 of 3 answers" instead of a single yes or no. Every answer carries the model and the time it was fetched.

Every tool that returns cited sources also returns source_mix: the share of them that are community sites (Reddit, YouTube, X, Quora and similar), so you can see whether a topic is won on-page or by what people say about a brand elsewhere.

Every check takes an optional country and language (for example Italy, it); the default is United States, en. Tools that read a live answer work in any supported market. find_citation_leaders, analyze_citation_trend and find_cited_questions only have ChatGPT data for the United States in English; use platform google for other countries.

## Research

https://vantagemcp.dev/research publishes original monthly data: the same 200 everyday questions asked of ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, and what their answers cite (share of community sites, sites cited per answer, which sites each engine cites most, by topic), with changes against the previous month. Every question has its own page, https://vantagemcp.dev/research/<question-with-hyphens> (for example /research/best-crm-for-small-business), listing the sites each engine cited, where they overlap and what changed since last month. The dataset is downloadable at https://vantagemcp.dev/research/data.json.

From the 1 November 2026 edition, https://vantagemcp.dev/research/software adds 150 questions people ask before they buy software (CRM, email marketing, SEO tools, AI visibility, AI coding, developer tools, MCP servers and more): per category, the brands ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity recommend most and the sites they cite, month on month.

## Try it without an account

https://vantagemcp.dev/check answers "is my site cited by ChatGPT?" with no signup, no email and no card. Give it a website: it finds up to three searches the site already ranks for in Google's top ten, asks ChatGPT each one, and reports whether the answer cites the site, names it without a link, or cites other sites instead (listed). A site with no usable rankings can type up to three questions instead. Website results are not published as pages.

The same page also checks any keyword: it returns the measured shape of the answer ChatGPT gives for it (whether it opens with a list, how long the opening is, how many sources it cites, and which domains). Every keyword answer keeps its own permanent page at https://vantagemcp.dev/check/<keyword-with-hyphens>, all listed in https://vantagemcp.dev/check/sitemap.xml, as plain server-rendered HTML with schema.org QAPage data.

The free checks cover ChatGPT, one answer per search. Gemini and Perplexity, several answers per search, up to ten searches at a time, change tracking and the fix brief are analyze_citation_coverage and analyze_citation_gap, which need a free account.
